If your pet experiences an emergency, bring your pet to Nashville Veterinary Specialists + Animal Emergency of Clarksville as soon as possible, or call us if you have questions regarding your pet’s condition. Please note that our ER is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and holidays 24-hours, and overnight from 6:00pm – 6:00am.
When transporting your pet, remember to stay calm. If you are calm, your pet will be more relaxed. Use slow, steady, gentle movements, and a low tone when approaching and handling your pet. Any pet in pain may bite, even its pet parent, so please be careful when you handle a pet that may be in pain.
Drive carefully and observe all speed and traffic lights and signs.
Handle your pet as gently and as little as possible.
Lie your pet on its side if possible. If the pet seems to resent this or has more difficulty breathing on its side, leave the pet in a comfortable position of your pet's choosing.
Place your pet in the back seat and, when possible, have someone ride in the back with them.
If your pet cannot walk or is too weak to stand, gently wrap/slide your pet into a blanket, towel, or coat, or place your pet in a secure pet carrier.
Get someone to help you lift your pet into a vehicle so you can support the pet’s head and rear.
If your pet is bleeding, apply firm, direct pressure over the bleeding area to control bleeding. Avoid bandages that cut off circulation.
Wrap large wounds to keep them clean.
Minimize movement as much as possible.
